Working in the fields

Back breaking work

I am not sure who or what this man is but I see him often and remember him from two years ago riding his bike. I think he has his own ashram, he may be a guru or such-like from what I can see

As I always say, if a kid gets on your goat, hide your goat !

There are many sadhus who just sit all day on Pradakshina Road, there seems to be a fine line between a lot of these sadhus and beggars. A real sadhu is not supposed to ask for anything but these guys are always asking

To walk around Arunachala is to do Pradakshina and millions of people do this every year here. This is Pradaksina Road and you get various forms of this. In this case we have a man who is rolling around the hill. His attendant is keeping him safe from traffic (hopefully) and wiping stones and muck off him as he turns. It's 14km and this man did this bit by bit over several days. This is the easy part of the road too by the way. Why do they do this ? Why do they do anything they do ??

Cooking on the side of the road

Always cricket, you can see the equipment is not quite up to scratch but they play anyway. This morning on the way into town I passed a school where about 30 or 40 boys were out playing soccer....with a flat ball !

Get a load of this !

This is Ram

A cubby-hole sewing business

Not sure what this sadhu is on !

This is Ram, he is a wandering brahmin sadhu and a recovering alcoholic. He is well educated and is currently working hard to learn about AA and to help establish a strong AA group here as there are a lot of these sadhus with serious alcohol addictions apparently

Old cycle-rickshaw transportation is still relatively common here

A lot of the houses are right on the street and the occupants live out the front for all to see. They cook, clean, eat and do pretty much everything in plain sight

Dog from a broken home !

This old man lives under a tree by a fence, this is his home
